Nova Threads

What are they?

Nova Threads, also called Polydiaxonone (PDO) threads, are a type of medical grade thread comprised of proteins. Similar to dissolvable soutures, the threads will be metabolized by your body over a period of time.

The threads are inside of a cannula and needle attachment. Using a similar method to injecting filler, your aesthetic provider will guide the needle beneath your skin, injecting Lidocaine for client comfort. The thread is barbed and attaches to muscle, adipose tissue, or directly into the skin. When pulled taut, the thread also pulls the skin with it, causing a lifting effect. In one smooth motion, the thread is released and the needle is removed.

Immediately after your Nova Threads you will see lifting and tightening of the skin. Bruising and swelling is normal, and cold compresses and ice packs are recommended for comfort. We also recommend that clients begin taking Arnica Montana tablets 5 to 7 days prior to treatment if they are concerned about bruising.

What is the downtime like?

Everybody is different when it comes to downtime and their body's healing patterns. Our clients have experienced about one to two weeks of lingering pain, bruising, swelling, and/or tightness.

Stopping the use of fish oil, crill oil, Vitamins D, A, and E, magnesium, and/or flax seed oil can help mitigate any bruising or swelling of the area. Again, Arnica Montana tablets are recommended 5 to 7 days before your procedure.

Treatment is not recommended if:

  • You have acne or are prone to cold sores in the area being treated

  • You have consumed alcohol in the last 48 hours, or have taking any blood thinners (Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc.)

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • You are diabetic, have an autoimmune disease, or have an infection.

This photo was taken three weeks after the client's procedure. Note the softening and rounding of the face!
